No. 1 Fabric Formula by Zhekai Zhang
Fabric Fantastic
It is perhaps ironic that most ceramic tableware are machine-made to perfection despite the roots of ceramics as a handicraft with all the inevitable imperfections. Zhekai Zhang, who just graduated from the Royal College of Art, aims to rediscover the beauty of randomness with his No. 1 Fabric Formula project.
The designer created a collection of slip-cast ceramic cups and jugs using moulds which have pieces of cloth inside. As a result, part of the vessel takes on the unique shape and imprint of the cloth, in contrast to the remaining part which comes out unblemished. A great way to celebrate the beauty of perfect imperfections.
