It is perhaps ironic that most ceramic tableware are machine-made to perfection despite the roots of ceramics as a handicraft with all the inevitable imperfections. Zhekai Zhang, who just graduated from the Royal College of Art, aims to rediscover the beauty of randomness with his No. 1 Fabric Formula project.
The designer created a collection of slip-cast ceramic cups and jugs using moulds which have pieces of cloth inside. As a result, part of the vessel takes on the unique shape and imprint of the cloth, in contrast to the remaining part which comes out unblemished. A great way to celebrate the beauty of perfect imperfections.
The Fish Design Spaghetti Bowl from Corsi looks beautifully random, as does the Showtime mirror from BD Barcelona Design. The Teak on Teak wallpaper from NLXL is also a great way to enjoy the beauty of perfect imperfection.
