From the outside, this handsome villa in Helsingborg, Sweden is a textbook example of classic restraint; its pink walls punctured by generously proportioned windows topped by an attractive mansard roof. Inside, the ground floor apartment is a surprisingly elegant combination of old and new.
What the agent says (courtesy of Google Translate): "The unique floor in Pålsjö definitely leaves no one unconcerned. The ocean view outside your window is at least magnificent. Interior is the residence surrounded by delightful original features such as stained-glass windows with motifs, hardwood crates, high chest panels, roof tiles, wall pieces and mirror pavers. The feeling is undoubtedly castle-like with all ornaments and thoughts rather than Versailles than Helsingborg."
What we love:
This is a great example of how contemporary furniture works in perfect harmony within a classic space. The standout feature is the sleek, modern kitchen set in the majestic hall complete with wood panelling, parquet floor and ceiling mural. The terrace, which leads to the garden and the coast beyond, is a stunner too.
What we would do:
We would go for all out indulgence and convert the family / TV room between the living and bed rooms into a grand bathroom cum dressing room suite.
The ground floor apartment at Bengt Langhs Gata 5, Helsingborg is marketed by Bjufors. Prices and details correct as at 18 September 2018.
Add your contemporary touch to a classic space with elegant furniture such as the Gentry sofa from Moroso, the Bondt round table from Zeitraum and the Exchange dining chair from Stellar Works.
Go for simple, sculptural lighting such as the Link suspension light from LZF, the Lantern floor lamp from New Works and the Bio table lamp from Ghidini 1961.
Add a splash of contemporary style with accessories such as the Echasse vase from Menu and the Miroir from Qeeboo. To recreate the effect of rustic wood panelling try the photorealistic Teak on Teak wallpaper from NLXL.
