The Soothing Sounds of Silence

Soothing by Andrew Grincell

In a world full of noise, wouldn't it be great if we were able to tune out parts of the soundscape in order to focus on the sounds we really want to hear?  Andrew Grincell's Soothing concept headphones and mobile app aim to do just that.

The idea is simple.  Put on the super sleek headphones, which registers the sound intake and sends the data wirelessly to your mobile phone.  The mobile app analyses the sounds and displays the different sources as tracks on an interface which resembles an equaliser.  You can then change the volumes of the different sources in order to filter out and emphasise different sounds, for example tuning out the traffic noise and intensifying the sounds of conversations.  Total control over your aural landscape, now that's a soothing concept.
