As winter approaches (and Brexit-induced anxiety escalates), the temptation to relocate to sunny Los Angeles becomes ever more appealing. For those who are contemplating a leap across the pond, this multiple award-winning house in Hollywood Hill is an extra reason to book that one-way ticket.
What the agent says: "The Nakahouse: a stunning abstract remodel in the Hollywood Hills with landmark views. Commissioned by its current owners and selected as AIA’s Home of the Year in 2012, this home’s artfully united interior is complete with custom finishes, floor to ceiling sliding glass panels, and white epoxy resin floors. Master suite and bedroom wing provide sweeping views and lots of natural light. The synchronized outdoor space is complete with large terraces and sundecks. A one-of-a-kind architectural you must experience in person."
What we love:
The superslick, monochrome design of the building provides the perfect perch to admire the stunning view; the extensive indoor-outdoor spaces and huge windows puts you right in the middle of the scenery.
What we would do:
A few well selected pieces of sculptural furniture with perhaps a pop of colour here and there would look great in this minimalist space.
Nakahouse at 3140 Hollyridge Drive was designed by XTEN Architecture and is being marketed by Westside Estate Agency.
Simple but sculptural furniture, such as the Element dining table from Desalto, would look great in this minimalist space. For the extensive terraces the slick and minimalist Alieno chair from Casamania would work wonders. For a pop of colour what about a Baobab coffee table from Moustache?
Focus on table lights in order not to obstruct the stunning views and go for sleek, sculptural shapes. Try the Core table lamp from New Works and the JWDA concrete lamp from Menu. The Piknik portable wireless table light from LZF is perfect for the outdoor spaces.
A few well chosen pieces of accessories would highlight the sculptural beauty of the space whilst still being in tune with the minimalist design. We like the Metrobowl from Frederik Roije, the Sunset mirror from Ghidini 1961 and the Concrete Cloud toilet paper shelf from Lyon Beton.
