Concept Glass Houses by Santambrogio

Transparent Living

Concept Glass Houses by Santambrogio

They say people who live in glass houses should not throw stones, even though glass used in modern buildings can probably withstand a fair few rocks given advances in material technology.  Designers Carlo Santambrogio and Ennio Arosio of Italian glass specialists Santambrogio are determined to show the strength and versatility of the material with two stunning concept houses made completely of glass.

The House of the Woods is a three-storey structure set in the middle of a forest, complete with a stunning floating glass staircase.  The House of the Sea is a single-storey structure located near a coastal cliff.  The house is partly suspended over a swimming pool, the ripples and reflections of the water visible through the transparent floor.  Both houses offer their inhabitants uninterrupted views of their spectacular settings, though whether anyone would be happy to live in complete transparency remains unclear.

Product Inspiration

Slick, minimal living calls for simple shapes and bold designs.  The Helsinki table with a glass top from Desalto is super slick and beautifully minimal, whilst the Alieno chair from Casamania is simple, sculptural and great for both indoor and outdoor use.

The sleek OLED lights from Blackbody, such as the Petite Fugue table light, would look great in the glass house.  Alternatively something in a contrasting texture like the concrete floor lamp from Lyon Beton would work well too.

The glass and cork Treasure table from Frederik Roije is a fun and unusual occasional table which makes a wonderful showcase for treasured objects.  The W / W carafe and glasses set from Menu is a glassy and classy choice for someone who loves functional, well designed accessories.
