It is rare to find a contemporary house as in tune with its surrounding landscape as the Haus am Weinberg, designed by architects UNStudio.
The house is located on an idyllic spot on the outskirts of a town, flanked by a vineyard on steep slopes on one side and expansive urban views on the other. Whilst other architects may find the many slopes of the site difficult, the team at UNStudio embraced the landscape and shaped the house around it. The central feature of the house is known as "the twist" - a structure containing the main staircase around which the different spaces are arranged, following the path of the sun. The exterior of the building has curves and rooflines which echo the slopes around it. A dramatic double-height glass wall at one corner opens up expansive views for the dining room inside. The end result is a house which looks stunningly sculptural and futuristic and yet feels entirely in tune with nature.
Minimalist and sculptural furniture would work well in the Haus am Weinberg. The rolling curves of the Softer Than Steel bench from Desalto looks stunning in its geometric simplicity. For a dash of colour try the Quetzal armchair from Missana. For something more rigorous and sculptural what about the Hiruki chair from Alki?
The natural wood veneer curls of the Link suspension light from LZF would look wonderful in a sleek, sculptural space, as would the shapely Lampscapes suspension light from Frederik Roije. The JWDA concrete table lamp from Menu would work well too.
Inspired by the sculptural curves of the Haus am Weinberg? Check out the colourful Fish Design rings by Corsi, the Sway silicone container from Finell and the Calla plate from Sena Gu.
