Future Vintage Collection by Deft Union
Back to the Future
What do you get when you mix mid-century design style with a dash of contemporary attitude? For Miami-based design collective Deft Union the answer is an intriguing collection of furniture that catapults classic designs to somewhere near the future.
The Future Vintage Collection comprises bookshelves, a screen, a pendant light, candle-holders and a spectacular credenza. These are all made with solid American walnut teamed with digitally milled perspex sheets. The shelves, for example, feature hand-crafted walnut frames with transparent perspex shelves suspended between them. The shelves are punctuated with diamond-shaped holes through which wooden sticks are inserted to create customisable book-ends or as a decorative feature. The credenza also has sliding panels made of colourful wool and cashmere. An intriguing mix of old and new, craft and technology.
Shop the Style
Create your own unique mix by combining pieces made of contrasting materials. What about a table made of recycled garments (Rememberme from Casamania), a brass chair (Miami chair from Ghidini 1961) and a bench made with a metal sheet that bends like a wave (Softer Than Steel from Desalto)?
Lighting also works well in a multitude of (sometimes unexpected) materials, from the natural wood veneers of the Swirl suspension light from LZF to the marble Core table lamp from New Works to the strengthened paper shade of the Vapeur table light from Moustache.
Mixed materials work a treat for accessories too. Try the concrete Cloud toilet paper shelf from Lyon Beton or the walnut, brass and quartz Slide serving tray from Finell. The glass and wood Oasi containers from Incipit look great and are very functional too.
