London-based designer Michael Anastassiades has created a series of occasional furniture for Herman Miller every bit as sculptural and minimalist as his well known designs for lights.
The stools and tables take on the simple form of round solid wood discs with two supporting poles in between, one in solid wood and the other in brass. The stools come in three different heights with the smallest one doubling up as an occasional table. The bar and counter stools feature a simple crossbar foot support as part of the brass pole, resembling an inverted crucifix.
The new collection was launched at Herman Miller's showroom at the Brera district of Milan during the annual design week. The double-height space featured oversized versions of Anastassiades' lights, their strong lines and spheres echoing the stools and tables, which were dotted around in the space like chess pieces in an expressive display. It was sculptural minimalism at its best and a great showcase of a consistent design vision.

To appreciate the beauty of sculptural simplicity look no further than the stunning Element table from Desalto. The shapely Kuskoa chair from Alki likewise looks great with its strong sculptural shape combined with the use of oak.
Lighting is a great way to add sculptural interest in a room. The Cape suspension light from Moustache and the Skylight Tower suspension light from Frederik Roije both look wonderful, especially when hung in clusters.
Sculptural accessories can have a big impact in a room, even if they are small. Try the Spire wall hooks from Finell or the candles from Andrej Urem.
