Stumble Upon Coffee Table by Alessandro Isola

Magic Carpet Table

Stumble Upon Coffee Table by Alessandro Isola

Most people would see folds and creases as undesirable for rugs, but not for London-based Italian architect Alessandro Isola, who has created a coffee table out of a fold in a rug.

The Stumble Upon coffee table offers a strong visual contrast between the soft pile of the rug on one side and the hard glossy surface of its back, a corner of which is folded up like a wave to form a firm table for small objects.  Perfect for aspiring magic carpet riders.

The Stumble Upon coffee table designed by Alessandro Isola has been shortlisted for an Architizer A+ award.

Product Inspiration

The Lake rugs by Golran are woven with a special technique which creates the effect of changing patterns depending on your viewing angle, which is almost as amazing as a magical flying carpet.

Inspired by the multi-functionality of the Stumble Upon Coffee table?  What about table lights which act as a bookstand (Asterisco from LZF) or as a bookend (Mr Ed from Functionals)?

For quirky and unexpected accessories try the Inception dish rack / desk tidy from Seletti or the Pipework candle holders from Nick Fraser.
