The Light of Colour by Nai-Dan Chang

Atmospheric Lighting

Ability to create ambience is the key to success for any interior design scheme, but how?  Nai-Dan Chang believes the answer lies with colour and has designed a clever series of furniture which recreates the effect of changing light and colours.

The Light of Colour collection of objects are made of plastic featuring movable elements, such as a chair which slides out of a table or cupboards with sliding doors.  By putting semi-translucent layers over brighter colours, the objects appear to glow from within, coming to life whenever they are used.  We can't think of a more functional and ethereally beautiful way to brighten up your home.

Nai-Dan Chang is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven and The Light of Colour is part of her graduation project.

Bright colours and sculptural shapes are great for creating distinctive design schemes.  Try the Mathilda chair from Moroso, the Mini Clay occasional tables from Desalto and the Bold bench from Moustache.

The best way to create the right ambience is to use the good lighting.  The Link suspension light from LZF is made of natural wood veneers, which casts a beautifully warm light.  For a more even light try the Teka OLED table light from Blackbody, which doesn't cast any glare or shadow.  For a more dramatic effect why not try the Twee. T bird cage suspension light from Casamania?

For accessories with a glassy and translucent effect try the Fish Design "spaghetti" bowl and ring from Corsi, all made of flexible resin made to look like glass.  We also like the contrast between the sculptural shape of the Hara candle from Andrej Urem and the gentle flickering light it casts.
