The Extraordinary Creations of Scarlet Splendour
For some people less may be more, but for others too much minimalism makes you a dull boy. Ashish Bajoria and Suman Kanodia, the Kolkata-based founders of Scarlet Splendour, are clearly believers of the latter.
The unapologetically maximalist collections of Scarlet Splendour are a feast for the eyes, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities and a generous dose of exoticism. We particularly like 88 Secrets, the elegant and super feminine collection of cabinets, chair, table and rug by Nika Zupanc, with their voluptuous curves, soft shades of peach and jade, embellished with her trademark bow motif. Matteo Cibic's Vanilla Noir collection packs a strong visual punch with his use of pattern and colour, whilst his Lotus Sanctum cabinet is a fun and exuberant cabinet in a satisfyingly over-the-top palette of candy pink and burnished brass. Other standout designs include the Luce Naga lights with their sinuously organic forms and the Fools' Gold collection of "dripping" tables and chairs. Unabashedly decadent, indulgently luxurious and utterly irresistible.
The new collections of Scarlet Splendour were showcased at the Galleria Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week.
