Ropey Style

Regen by Wendy Andreu

Regen is a unique system of making garments devised by Wendy Andreu, a designer fascinated by materials.

She starts by winding cotton rope around a mould and then applying latex onto the surface, which binds them together creating a malleable and waterproof material.  The resulting fabric retains the rough texture of rope on one side and the smooth texture of latex on the other, with unique shadings and patterns created where the latex seeps through the rope.  By using moulds of different shapes the designer has created various garments, hats and bags.  These all share the unique characteristics of this fascinating material: a combination of contrasting textures, strong shapes and more than a lashing of style.

Wendy Andreu is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven and Regen is part of her graduation project.

Sculptural Style

Product Inspiration

Unexpected use of materials and sculptural shapes make for interesting furniture.  Check out the Rememberme chair from Casamania, the Untitled concrete chair from New Works and the Saski chair from Alki.

Lights made from contrasting materials and textures work well in sculptural design schemes.  Try the marble and glass Kizu table lamp from New Works, the brass Flamingo table lamp from Ghidini 1961 and the concrete floor lamp from Lyon Beton.

A good way to achieve different textures is to use the photo-realistic wallpaper from NLXL  The scrapwood, marble and copper effects are particularly effective.
