Furniture and Accessories by Kaksikko
Japanordic Style
Nordic cool and Japanese minimalism make great design bedfellows, as the simple and sleek collections from Finnish design collective Kaksikko show.
Salla Luhtasela and Wesley Walters are the Helsinki-based designers behind Kaksikko. Their inspirations come from many sources, such as the industrial hand rails referenced in the minimalist back and arm of the Maissi bench, but it is the Japanese influence which is most apparent. The Korematsu chair, for instance, is designed for an osteopathy clinic in Japan, the almost meditative quality of the design a clear nod to eastern philosophy. We also like the simple elegance of the Pippu coffee and tea pot and the Ask nesting trays with their Apple iPhone-esque focus on purity. These refined designs are a perfect antidote to the hectic life of modern city dwellers.

Product Inspiration
Recreate the serene vibe of Kaksikko products with natural materials and slick shapes, such as the Altay armchair from Coedition, the Zumitz low table from Alki and the Split Step step ladder from Frederik Roije.
The natural wood veneers lamps from LZF, such as the Link suspension light, are perfect for creating a naturally calming atmosphere. The perfect poise and balance of the Kizu table lamp from New Works also has the same effect. For something with a more surreal edge try the Vaporetto table light from Moustache.
The beautiful sculptural shapes of the Sula carafe / vases from Incipit work wonderfully well in minimalist spaces, as does the Cyclope standing mirror from Moustache. For something with a quirky flourish but still with a refined finish try the Tree vase from Sena Gu.
