Dragon Calligraphy Furniture by Chulan Kwak

The Writing is on the Furniture

Dragon Calligraphy Furniture by Chulan KwakTraditional Chinese calligraphy is a revered art form which has long been celebrated in paintings, books and graphic design.  We can now add furniture to this list thanks to Korean designer Chulan Kwak, who took inspiration from the swirling brushstrokes of master calligraphers to create spellbindingly sculptural furniture.

The Dragon chair and table are three-dimensional incarnations of abstract brushstrokes, rendered in stained plywood with metal tops.  The complex form of the chair and table requires extensive use of 3D computer software as well as precision cutting and manipulation of bendable plywood to realise.  The end result is not just a homage to Chinese calligraphy, but also to the creative ingenuity of the designer.
