The 7th Room by Snohetta

The renowned Treehotel in Sweden has just added the 7th room to its eclectic collection of treehouses.  This one is perfect for design devotees with a head for heights.

Designed by Norway-based international architectural firm Snohetta, the 7th room is a traditional Nordic-style cabin built 10 metres above ground amidst a pine forest.  The cabin is supported by slim pillars which resemble the surrounding pine trees, but the illusion doesn't stop there.  The base of the cabin is covered by a printed image of the forest canopy, so as you approach the cabin and look up the structure almost disappears.  Timber is used, fittingly, as the main construction material, from the burnt pine boards which clad the exterior to the ash wood floors and birch ply walls inside.

The interior space is decorated stylishly in a monochrome colour scheme with a slick selection of furniture and lights that minimises distraction from the majestic treetop views.  Standout features include sunken beds and a terrace made of netting, through which a pine tree protrudes, adding further to the sensation of living amongst the trees.  The only thing missing is an outdoor hot tub, but perhaps that is asking too much.

The 7th room sleeps five guests in two double bedrooms and a sofa bed and is available to rent from the Treehotel.

Product Inspiration

Capture the Nordic spirit with simple, well designed furniture made of wood.  We love the sculptural simplicity of the Kuskoa chair from Alki, the Snaregade table from Menu and the simple and slick Longlegs shelf from Frederik Roije.

The simple and unobtrusive wall lights in the 7th room well very well.  You can achieve a similar effect with the wood veneer wall lights from LZF, such as with the I-Club.  The sleek Material pendant lights from New Works are available in multiple materials, including oak and cork.  For subtle low level lighting try the Bowl table lamp, also from New Works

Simple and sculptural tableware, such as the Sula carafe / vases from Incipit, would look great in the treehouse.  For a charmingly decorative touch try the Bubble Tree plate from Sena Gu.  Want to recreate the effect of a log cabin in the city?  Try the photo-realistic Scrapwood wallpaper from NLXL.
