Delicately Threadbare

Delicate Thread Dividers by Juno Jeon

Korean designer Juno Jeon is well known for his Alive Furniture Series, featuring cabinets with wooden "scales" which move as the drawers are open and closed.  For his graduation show he showcased another innovative project, this time using leftover threads thrown away by textile companies as a material.

The designer has created a series of room dividers by winding epoxy-coated threads around wooden frames and putting the resulting screens together with concrete blocks.  The end products look beautifully colourful and delicate, especially when a light is put inside.

Juno Jeon is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven and the Delicate Thread Divider is part of his graduation project.

Product Inspiration

For furniture with a delicate, woven touch try the Kimua barstool from Alki, the Alieno chair from Casamania and the Groove screen from LZF.

Kimua - High Barstool - 6.163   Alieno Chair - Wide Back   Groove Screen

LZF lights are all made of natural wood veneers which can be used to create a beautifully delicate woven effect, as can be seen with the Spiro suspension light.  The Moire wall light from New Works has a similarly delicate effect.  We also like the beautifully diffused light which comes from the Vapeur table light from Moustache.

We love the woven effect of the Tip Top trays from Ghidini 1961 and the sculptural thread coils of the Half Coil necklace from Eleanor Bolton.  For something fun what about the hand-crocheted football toy from Anne Claire Petit?

Terrazzo Things from Lick My Brick

There was a time when the use of marble was largely restricted to floors, posh kitchen counters and grave statutes. And then, at some point around the mid-noughties, marble was everywhere. Could the same be happening to terrazzo?

Curves - they are organic, playful, comforting and sensual - what's not to like? The architects at Toronto-based Partisans certainly agree, and they are masters at applying curves in their projects.
