Green Domination

Brazilian Taste by AIM

Whilst many city dwellers yearn for a simple, green life, few manage to merge the urban and the bucolic in such style as this apartment in Milan.

The homeowners wanted to turn this former industrial space into a sleek and versatile home where their passion for plants can be showcased.  Architects AIM duly delivered with a slick design scheme which evolves around a central "box" housing the main living area.  Built in concrete with rough cement on the outside and glossy white resin inside, the box frames the room so stylishly it could have been conceived for Instagram.

Elsewhere in the 200 square metre apartment a soothing palette of white and grey complement the dark wood floors in a restrained interior design scheme.  Bursts of colour and excitement are provided by the plants, which pour out of unexpected corners and niches as if they were slowly taking over the apartment.  This is an elegantly simple, almost meditative space that is perfect for green worshipping.

Product Inspiration

This apartment in Milan shows how minimalist design can be warm and inviting.  Achieve the same effect with naturally sleek furniture such as the Koila armchair from Alki, the Turning table from Menu and the concrete Bridge stool from Lyon Beton.

The natural wood veneers of LZF lights, such as the Chou suspension light, creates a beautiful warm glow that is perfect for a natural and slick design scheme.  The organic shape of the Elmetta table light from Incipit would also work well.  For a touch of whimsy try the Vapeur table light from Moustache.

For accessories that are functional as well as stylishly natural try the Vide umbrella stand from Incipit or the Treasure table from Frederik Roije.  Add a subtly decorative touch with the Cauliflower container from Sena Gu

Japanese zen style goes far beyond minimalist white spaces. It is about thoughtful spaces which encourage the contemplation of light, colours, textures and shapes - the building blocks of nature and beauty. The Shutter House in Perth is a great example.

Terrazzo Things from Lick My Brick

There was a time when the use of marble was largely restricted to floors, posh kitchen counters and grave statutes. And then, at some point around the mid-noughties, marble was everywhere. Could the same be happening to terrazzo?
