Backwater by Platform 5 Architects
Waterside Living
Discerning tourists have long flooded to the Broads, a network of picturesque lakes and waterways in Norfolk and Suffolk. Now you can enjoy a taste of this rural idyll, in surprisingly modern style, thanks to the Backwater house.
Designed by Platform 5 Architects, the Backwater house is located on a private lagoon 30 minutes' boat ride from Wroxham. The house, built on a promontory surrounded by water on three sides, comprises three connected buildings with traditional pitched roofs and cladding of black-stained cedar shingles typical of the area.
The interior and style of the house, on the other hand, is distinctly contemporary. The pale wood floor boards, white walls and monochrome colour scheme creates an air of tranquility which echoes the serene views. The sleek kitchen-dining area and sculptural spiral staircase will appeal to design fans, but the star attraction is clearly outdoors. The ground floor spaces have large windows leading to a vast decked area by the water, perfect for an alfresco dinner, or perhaps just endless summer afternoons lounging in the sun.
The Backwater house is available for holiday lets.

Product Inspiration
Create an atmosphere of peace and serenity with furniture in natural materials and sleek, streamlined shapes. Try the Koila lounge chair and Zumitz collection of accessories from Alki, the Fan table from Desalto and the Raphia rocking armchair from Casamania.
The Agatha suspension light from LZF would look great in this beautiful waterside house. For more subdued, low level lighting try the Elmetta table light from Incipit and the Bowl table light from New Works.
Outdoor accessories can be sleek and modern too. The Dish of Desire bird feeder from Frederik Roije is quirky and super modern, whilst the concrete bowler hat from Seletti is great as a plant pot. For the ultimate in outdoor accessory the Smokestack fireplace and barbecue from Frederik Roije is hard to beat.
