Attic Guest Room by Vincent Van Duysen

Loft conversions are often associated with light and space, but this atmospheric attic room shows how a dark brooding space can become a stylish sanctuary.

This loft guest room was designed by Vincent van Duysen, architect, interior designer, product designer and all-round maestro of minimalism.  Despite the light pouring in through enormous skylights, the space retains an air of darkness with a hint of industrial masculinity.  The raw, unfinished look of the brick walls and timber rafters is complemented by broad wooden floorboards and an entire wall of wooden folding doors, behind which the bath, storage space and other utilities are concealed.  The room is sparsely furnished with carefully selected pieces, the layers of texture and subdued colour palette creating a discretely luxuriously ambiance.  This is a room we'd be delighted to play guest in any day.
