Newberg Residence by Cutler Anderson Architects
Those who fancy a water feature in their backyard should take a closer look at the Newberg Residence designed by Cutler Anderson Architects, winner of the American Institute of Architects 2016 Housing Award for excellence in housing design.
The almost 2,000 square feet house is built over one end of a secluded pond. Visitors have to park their cars 150 feet away, walk through the forest and cross a wooden bridge before reaching the front entrance. Only once you enter the house is the bucolic view revealed dramatically through the double-height, fully glazed facade facing the pond. The structure of the house is relatively simple, with a steel frame supporting a the slanting wooden roof. The extensive use of wood, both inside and out, provides a perfect complement to the water and trees which surround this idyllic spot.
Shop the Style
Wood furniture in a contemporary style with a rustic touch would look great in this house by the lake. Try the Saski chair from Alki and the Synnes chair from Menu. The appropriately named Lake rug from Golran would also work well.
The natural wood veneers of the LZF lights, such as the Agatha suspension light, look stunning and cast beautifully warm light too. We also like the soft shape of the Vapeur table light from Moustache and the simplicity of the Cosmos floor light from LZF.
Enjoy your outdoor space in style with the Smokestack fireplace and the Dish of Desire bird feeding table from Frederik Roije. Or what about using the charming ceramics of Sena Gu, such as the Tree Vase, to bring the outdoors in?
