The Risom Shelves (1955) is a freestanding shelving unit with a timeless distinctive mid-century style focusing on simplicity and functionality and marking it out as a true modern classic. This compact bookcase combines 4 open shelves with two drawer compartments, the latter featuring cut-out drawer fronts, which gives the bookcase a sense of lightness. A cane back version of the chair of this same collection was used in the White House in the 1960s, with President Lyndon B. Johnson photographed sitting on it whilst he signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964. The Risom Shelves comes with a solid oak or walnut wood structure in various finishes with veneer panels.
