The Gentry sofa, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, is a contemporary interpretation of the classic values suggested by its name: timeless elegance imbued with a sense of superior confidence. The generous proportions of the seat reinforces the emphasis on comfort, whilst the gentle curve of the seat back and arms create a sense of informality, inviting you to sit back and indulge. The curve also, unusually, makes the sofa interesting to look at from behind. The selection of Moroso's exclusive chunky quilted fabric together with the scatter of plush cushions brings the style of the sofa right up to date, perfect for the modern gentry and contemporary loungers alike. There is also an Extra Light version of the Gentry sofa. It has longer feet, slimmer seat cushions and a higher seat back compared to the original version, creating a sense of poise and lightness.
Gentry is a modular sofa system with endless opportunities for customisation. Different elements can be combined to create multiple configurations, from simple two or three seater sofas to extravagant U or L shape arrangements with chaise longue, peninsulas and backless units.
Patricia Urquiola is one of the most influential furniture designers working today. She was born in Oviedo in Spain but now lives and works in Milan. Urquiola trained as an architect and worked with Achille Castiglioni and Piero Lissoni before starting her own studio in 2001. She has since designed numerous products for leading furniture brands including Moroso, B&B Italia, Molteni & C and Kartell. Urquiola’s designs are unconventional, emphatic and experimental; blending humanist sensibilities and technical expertise – qualities that also inform her work as an architect.
Moroso is, without doubt, one of the best furniture brands in the world. Under the creative direction of Patrizia Moroso, the brand combines its manufacturing expertise (especially in sofas and seating) with creative input from leading designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Ron Arad and Nendo to create a broad range of furniture of unmatched quality and creativity. Moroso products work well for both private and public spaces and are ideal for making a strong design statement.
