The Earth Stool is a functional and versatile stool designed by Eva Harlou for Mater. Behind the industrial and natural organic look of the stool are highly sustainable features. The seats are made from insulin pens in collaboration with Novo Nordisk, coffee bean shells from BKI coffee and waste from Carlsberg’s beer production (the spent grain, or "mask" in Danish), mixed with post-industrial plastic waste. The technique is developed in collaboration with Danish Technological Institute with support from the University of Copenhagen. The waste materials are mixed in a unique compound suitable for press moulding – a method designed to reuse companies’ resources more efficiently.
In addition to its environmental credentials, the Earth Stool also represents classic Scandinavian design with steel frames that make the bar stool elegant and timeless. This light yet sturdy stool is perfect for bars and kitchens, appropriate for both contemporary and classic design schemes and ideal for both private and contract use.
The Earth Stool is created in line with circular design thinking and the UN SDGs: “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDGs 12), “Climate Action” (SDGs 13) and “Partnership for the Goals” (SDGs 17).
The Earth Stool is available in 2 seat heights (74 cm and 69 cm) with 2 types of seat materials: plastic waste with coffee bean waste dark or coffee bean waste light. Please make your selection in the Seat Material and the Seat Height options above.
The Earth Stool is part of a collection of sustainably produced stools in various recycled materials, in both counter and bar heights, with or without backrests.
