The Risom C142 Chair (1955) was originally designed by Jens Risom and recently reissued by Stellar Works. The classic good looks of the chair is instantly recognisable by its comfortable upholstered seat and backrest and solid wood frame. A cane back version of the chair was used in the White House in the 1960s, with President Lyndon B. Johnson photographed sitting on it whilst he signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964. The Risom C142 chair is a timeless classic which works well at home around the dining table and in commercial spaces such as offices and hotel rooms.
The Risom chair comes in a solid ash or walnut frame with its seat and backrest upholstered in fabric. For the upholstery, Stellar works recommends Hallingdal 65 from Kvadrat, designed by mid-century Danish designer iconic Nanna Ditzel, in 457 (yellow), 547 (orange) 850 (blue), though other options are available, please refer to the fabrics and finishes guide for more information. The Risom chair is also available with a cane-mesh back (C140 version). Please contact us if you have any further questions on fabrics and finishes.
Jens Risom, who designed the first Knoll chair in 1941, received his education in Denmark at the Krebs' School, St. Anne Vester School, University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen's Kunståndvaerkerskolen. He worked as a designer of furniture and interiors in the Copenhagen office of architect Ernst Kuhn.
