Whilst the use of mixed materials in furniture design is not a new idea, we do like the unexpected juxtapositions of contrasting materials and the stories which they tell.
This project by the Chilean design studio Great Things to People involves the digital mapping of the veins of marble in order to determine where it should be cut and then filled in with bronze. The end creation is a coffee table with bronze legs and pools of bronze set within the natural shapes formed by the veins of marble. The concept is to reflect the fusion of tradition as embodied by bronze casting and the passage of time enshrined in marble; the result is both elegant and opulent.
