Playful Drinks Trolley and Bench by Douglas & Company
Jan and Liani Douglas are a Cape Town based design duo specialising in contemporary furniture, lighting and interior objects. For 100% Design South Africa in 2015 they launched a few limited edition pieces which are functional and charming, especially as they all have interesting stories behind them. McSorley's Wonderful Saloon, for example, is a drinks trolley named after McSorley's Old Ale House, one of the oldest bars in New York. We love them for the clever use of mixed materials (wood, metal, marble) and sunny colours (candy pink against black steel frame), which adds visual interest as well as functionality. The overall effect is sculptural and witty, and it looks great even without any drinks!

Architect Stephane Malka's passion is to renew urban life by making clever use of under-utilised spaces in cities. This remarkable house in the Boulogne Billancourt area of Paris is a great example.
Lisbon-based design brand Dooq has steered away from traditional Portuguese furniture design by creating a collection of furniture that thrives on unexpected contrasts in styles, shapes and materials.
