Quirky Chic

The Art of Apartment Living by Art Buro - Paris

For many people, apartment living is an unfortunate but unavoidable aspect of modern urban life.  Great design, however, can elevate apartment living to an art form, making the best use of space as well as stimulating the senses and lifting the spirits.  London-based interior design firm Art Buro are masters of this art, as this super chic apartment in Paris shows.

The structure of the apartment, with its generous proportions, large windows and decorative mouldings, is unmistakably classic.  The vibe, on the other hand, is thoroughly modern: contemporary luxe with a hint of quirkiness.  The bleached oak floor boards are arranged in broad chevrons, creating a sense of dynamism.  Neutral grey walls form the perfect backdrop for the sleek and sculptural furniture, enlivened by flashes of gold and turquoise from the light fittings and upholstery.  We particularly like the bespoke cabinets with their industrial look, storage box coffee tables with tops that lift up to form small work surfaces and the bedroom cabinet which opens up to reveal a bijou desk.  This stylish apartment is an inspiring testimony to the delights and uplifting power of contemporary apartment living.

Neutral colours, sleek shapes with a touch of quirkiness are great ingredients for a contemporary romantic design scheme.  The Gentry sofa from Moroso combines classic proportions with a chunky knitted fabric to create a delightfully modern look.  The Clay table from Desalto is beautifully geometric and looks wonderful in white or dark grey.  This will work well with the sleek Shortwave chair from Diesel Living

For a classic chandelier with a super modern twist check out the spectacular O Mi Kami OLED suspension light from Blackbody.  The elegant and understated Hi-Collar wall light from LZF would look great on panelled walls.  For a touch of quirkiness try the Olo table light from Moustache

Simple and sculptural accessories would look great in Art Buro's stylish Parisian apartment.  We love the Heirloom vase from Moustache, the Cauliflower container from Sena Gu would work well too.  For a touch of luxury what about the Florida bowl from Ghidini 1961?
