Few materials embody heritage as well as textiles do, and few textiles are as loaded with tradition as rugs are. Faig Ahmed, who hails from Azerbaijan, is an artist who explores this connection with a collection of traditional Azerbaijani rugs which have been disassembled, rearranged and otherwise reimagined. The resulting rugs are an intriguing mix of tradition and contemporary, graphic and abstract.
Some of Faig Ahmed's works can be seen at the Crafted - Objects in Flux exhibition, now on at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from 25 August 2015 to 10 January 2016.
