Last night during dinner, whilst our fingers were doing the usual dance moves on the TV remote control, we unexpectedly came across the first episode of The Great Pottery Throw Down on the trusty BBC iPlayer. This smells like yet another spin-off from the uber-popular Great British Bake Off series (there was sewing, hairdressing and now pottery - what next???) but somehow not quite as compelling, despite the numerous unconvincing references to how similar pottery is to sex.
Anyway, we do like the programme, mainly because it explains some of the basic pottery techniques and here at Do we love hand-made ceramics. Our Do Masters programme has supported numerous young ceramicists over the years and here is some of our favourites:
Sena Gu
Refined and poetic, with inspirations from the natural world.
Thomas Carl Mann
Sleek shapes and contemporary colour palette with mixed media details.
I Liang Liu
Sensual organic shapes with beautiful blue glaze.
Jill Shaddock
Slip-cast vessels with etchings of numbers showing how many minutes each different-coloured layer has to taken to form in a visual celebration of the creative process.
Koji Shiraya
Sculptural and elegant boxes made from porcelain and feldspar.
Victoria Wilmotte
The familiar jerry-can shape distilled and captured in these bold, sculptural pieces.

When it comes to summer living, few do so as effortlessly stylishly as the Italians. Consider the Masseria Le Torri, a beautifully restored 18th century farmhouse not far from the coastal town of Polignano a Mare in Puglia.
