For those who are not in the know, Vlisco is a Dutch textiles brand which virtually invented the colourful African print fabrics so popular in western Africa and beyond. The company prints these fabrics using a highly complicated and artisanal process which generates much wastage. Simone Post, who just graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven, saw the creative possibilities from these colourful scraps during her internship at Vlisco and decided to refashion them into interior products. Some are woven and wound into rugs and seat covers, the layers of colourful fabric appearing like the rings of a tree trunk. She also laser-cut along the designs of some fabrics, creating room dividers with a delicate, lace-like effect.
