Rhythm of Light Collection by Susanne de Graef
Dancing with Light
Nestled in a corner of the Salone Satellite area of the Salone del Mobile in Milan were exquisite chandeliers with strong sculptural shapes and a delicate demeanour. These are the works of Dutch designer Susanne de Graef, who constructed the lights using metal rings connected with coloured threads in different colours. The threads sway and glimmer in the wind, creating an ethereal light which belies the strong presence of the chandelier.

Strong sculptural shapes could be made from delicate materials, whilst delicate shapes might disguise the strength of construction. The Softer Than Steel collection of furniture, designed by Nendo for Desalto, is a great example of such a delightful paradox.
Like waves undulating in the wind, the wood veneer lights of LZF look beautifully sculptural and create exquisite light too.
The necklaces from Eleanor Bolton are crafted using hand-dyed cords, creating delicate and tactile jewellery with a strong sculptural quality.
