Having moved offices and houses several times over the past few months we are well used to exploring the possibilities of carton boxes (which are ubiquitous apart from when you need them). So imagine our surprise when we came across the cARTon collection of furniture hand-crafted by Didier Deme.
These, at first sight, look like desks and shelves made from cardboard boxes, which is not a new idea. However, on closer inspection, the furniture turned out to be made from wood and MDF crafted and decorated elaborately to resemble cardboard boxes, complete with proper door hinges and drawers. What is the point, you might argue? A quirky addition for someone who misses the student life of moving every few months? Or perhaps an elaborate joke for the very well off who can afford the finest design furniture?
