Streetplastic Plastic Bag Recycling Machine

Recycling on the Go

The evils of plastic bags are well rehearsed, but there seems to be no consensus on what is the best way to solve the problem.  Could the Streetplastic mobile recycling machine developed by German designer Stefanie Rittler be the solution?  This hand-cranked mobile mini-factory essentially melts, shreds and then bonds your waste plastic bag onto a white plastic bag, thereby creating a completely new, unique and personalised bag for future use.  Whilst there are certainly issues with this design concept (the energy required to melt the bag and the fact that you need a new bag to recycle an old one), it's good to see such fresh ideas to draw attention to a serious problem.
