Sculptural Paradise
Joris Poggioli is a Franco-Italian designer who combines French elegance with Italian creativity to create furniture which makes a real design statement. Villa Luce, his latest project, is an imaginary seaside villa with curvaceous walls and enormous arch-shaped windows which showcases items from his new Eden Paradiso collection.
The Rose sofa is a composition of four enormous upholstered tubes, their monolithic presence enlivened by the texture of the ribbed fabric. This is accompanied by the statuesque Sirio and Idia occasional tables, both in green Alpi marble. The Aglae console, resplendent in onyx or marble, resembles the structure of multi-storey buildings. We also like the animalistic shape of the Cleo screen, the graphic presence of the Rick chair and the imposing Orfeo desk, which looks like an artful stack of polished pebbles.
This cavernous space may be sparsely furnished, but the result is a great lesson in how a few well designed pieces can fill a minimalist space with character and spirit.
