Nosemono Collection by New Craft House (Shinkogeisha)

Between a Rock and a 3D Printed Place

Nosemono Collection by New Craft House (Shinkogeisha)The designers at Kyoto-based New Craft House (Shinkogeisha) are pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship by using cutting-edge technology.

For the Nosemono collection of accessories, the designers took a number of rocks, mapped their contours with a digital scanner and then 3D-printed various plastic attachments which transform the rocks into functional objects such as tape dispensers, vases and lamps. The smooth and brightly coloured plastic attachments stand in sharp contrast to the rough, organic texture of the rocks, but the perfect fit between the natural and manufactured components create the illusion that one had grown out of the other.

This new craftsmanship harnesses the power of technology and mass production, reinvigorating the art of creating unique pieces by hand.
