Buttes Chaumont Apartment by Glenn Medioni Architects

February 10, 2016

Dazzling Style

How to create interest in a minimalist space when the brief is to maximise storage with limited decoration?  When faced with a similar challenge for a small Parisian apartment, Glenn Medioni Architects came up with a simple yet visually captivating design.

Storage is taken care of with extensive use of built-in cabinets punctuated with display niches, the latter painted bright yellow to create a sense of dynamism.  To access the bedrooms the architects designed sliding doors with screens in front of them, each lined with 45 degree slanting wooden slats.  This creates a dazzling visual effect as they slide across the main internal wall of the apartment, which is lined with vertical wooden slats.

Although the apartment is fairly sparsely furnished, careful selection of items such as the upholstered dining chairs and industrial style pendant lights combine comfort with a contemporary streamlined look.  Perfect for modern family life.

The Kuskoa chair from Alki is made of solid oak and can be upholstered in fabric or leather.  Great for achieving the sleek contemporary look without sacrificing on comfort.

A simple and minimal industrial style pendant light, such as the Bell suspension light from Diesel Living or the Skylight suspension light from Frederik Roije, is a great way to offer contrast and interest in a living space with lots of wood.

Accessories with a flash of bright colour or in an interesting sculptural shape always work wonders against natural wood.  Try the Heirloom vase from Moustache or the Spin silicone container from Finell.
