For many people Friday is the start of the weekend, when thoughts turn to lazy, relaxing afternoons reconnecting with nature, away from the rush of the city. It is therefore appropriate that the first project from Friday, a multi-disciplinary design collective spun out of Coimbra University in Portugal, is an elegant mobile floating house called FloatWing. Designed as a modular structure, the boat house could be configured in different sizes, from a snug studio measuring 6 x 10 m to a party-friendly 3-bedroom house of 6 x 18 m. The interior space is sleek and serene, with an emphasis on natural materials. The FloatWing's eco-credentials are outstanding. With in-built solar panels and a wastewater treatment plant, the boat could produce up to 100% of its energy needs over the summer months. Perfect for the roaming modern day Robinson Crusoe.
