Trousdale Estates House by Jamie Bush + Co and Dennis Gibbens Architects

Mid Century Contemporary Cool

Trousdale Estates House by Jamie Bush + Co and Dennis Gibbens ArchitectsTrousdale Estates, an exclusive enclave of Beverly Hills developed in the 1950s and 60s, has been home to countless celebrities from Elvis Presley and Jennifer Aniston to Richard Nixon and Simon Cowell. It is therefore no surprise that when interior designer Jamie Bush and architect Dennis Gibbens were commissioned to renovate one of the houses in the neighbourhood they took their inspirations from Hollywood glamour and mid-century style, albeit with a contemporary flavour.

The key design feature of the house is the use of the circle as a recurring motif. An immaculately manicured drive takes you from the street to a perfectly round front courtyard, the curved walls of the building welcoming you with its open arms.

A generous hallway leads to a circular sunken living room with multiple seating areas, the curvaceous sofas and armchairs echoing the curvy floor to ceiling windows. The living room is separated from the hallway and dining area by frosted glass panels, a neat idea which creates a sense of separation without blocking the light.

The far end of the house is dominated by a round bedroom, part of a luxurious suite which includes a large dressing room and an expansive bathroom, complete with an outdoor shower. The house also includes a second bedroom, a seductively moody den / study as well as an outdoor lounge area with the obligatory swimming pool (this is LA, afterall).

The furniture and lighting is contemporary in style but with strong mid-century influences plus an occasional artistic flourish, such as the Lindsey Adelman chandelier over the dining table and a couple of casual dining tables with intriguing bases.

This stylish house is perfect for its location - luxurious, sophisticated and really rather cool.
