Artists Designed Pop-Up Libraries in Indianapolis

Books for Free

At a time when books are increasingly supplanted by tablets and the internet, The Public Collection is just the kind of initiative to put some excitement back into the age-old media of ink and paper.  The project is conceived by artist Rachel Simon, who commissioned 9 local artists to design unique pop-up book-share stations which are dotted around the city of Indianapolis.  The books are free and available for all to borrow and return.  Some of these amazing structures include Harvesting Knowledge, a sculpture designed by Brose Partington to resemble an agricultural machine digging books out of the ground and Nautilus, a boat-shaped structure made of reclaimed wood designed by Katie Hudnall.  Not to be missed if you happen to be in town.
