Hudson Street Loft by Soren Rose Studio

It's Hip to be Cool

Hudson Street Loft by Soren Rose StudioThe multi-talented Soren Rose (see his designs for Menu here) may be based in New York, but his aesthetics are firmly grounded in his Danish roots, as this sleek loft apartment in TriBeCa designed by him shows.

This 1,400 square feet 19th century loft apartment has been converted into a light and airy family home.  Two of the three bedrooms are separated from the main living space by glass partition walls, which cleverly allows the light to penetrate deep inside the apartment.  The colour palette of cool neutrals and abundance of natural wood, especially on the floor with ultra-wide planks and in the discrete floor-to-ceiling cabinets, set a firm Scandinavian tone.  Against this backdrop are references to American industrial style, from the black metal window frames and exposed brick wall to the stainless steel kitchen and an inviting leather sofa.  The end result is comfortable and harmonious, a haven of Nordic cool in one of the hippest neighbourhoods of New York city.

Product Inspiration

Combine the best of Nordic and industrial styles with plenty of natural wood and details in metal.  The Egon coffee table from Alki, the Dao barstool from Coedition and the Chubby Chic armchair from Diesel Living are good examples.

Sleek, industrial style light fittings look great in any space.  Try the Chambers chandelier, designed by Soren Rose Studio for Menu, the 90 Degrees wall light from Frama and the Five floor lamp from New Works.

Concrete accessories, such as the Blockwork desk organiser from Lyon Beton, is a great way to add a touch of industrial style.  We also like the Pipework coat rack from Nick Fraser and the Loop wall mirror from Car-Met.
