Bloemgracht Loft by Standard Studio

February 19, 2016

Canal Cool

The grand canals which loop around the centre of old Amsterdam are lined with graceful canal houses, many of which date back to the 18th century.  In one of these houses on the picturesque Bloemgracht is an apartment that have been converted by Standard Studio into a slick and masculine industrial-style loft which wouldn't look out of place in Tribeca.

The 150 square metre apartment has been completely gutted from the inside, with just the wooden ceiling beams remaining from the old structure.  The open plan space houses a sleek kitchen with matte black power-coated steel at one end and a matching bar and dining area on a split level mezzanine at the other.  In between lies the living area and a spectacular open plan bedroom-cum-study-cum bathroom, all furnished with minimalist furniture which fits the vibe of the loft perfectly.  This is a super stylish apartment great for living in and even better for partying.

Sleek industrial-style spaces call for sleek, masculine furniture.  The Take a Line for a Walk armchair from Moroso has a strong presence and is super comfortable too.  The minimalist style of Frederik Roije's Tablefields occasional table is also perfect for such spaces.

Mr Ed from Functionals is a discrete but industrial looking table light which works well in a loft, as does the concrete and glass combination of the JWDA Concrete Lamp from Menu.

The Pipework candle holder from Nick Fraser references industrial-style spaces and adds a welcome dash of colour, whilst the Join Facet placemat from Finell makes for a sculptural and practical accessory.
