Loft of Light

Canal House Loft by Witteveen Architecten

This light and airy canal-side loft in Amsterdam is perfect for modern city living.

Designed by Witteveen Architecten, this unusually large, double-height space has been stripped back to reveal beautiful original features including wooden floorboards, walls of original brickwork and ornamental columns.  The open plan space is cleverly partitioned with white walls and a black-framed mezzanine platform.  Notable features include a sliding wall panel which screens off the children's room on the ground floor, a sunken master bedroom and a stunning sunken bath.  The monochrome colour palette and simple furniture complement the space well and no doubt help its inhabitants to focus on the important things in life: space, light and perfect order.

Product Inspiration

Minimalist and sculptural furniture works well in airy loft spaces.  The Element dining table from Desalto, Overdyed side chair from Diesel Living and the ABC bookcase from Saporiti would all look great.

For slick, industrial style lighting try the Skylight Tower suspension light from Frederik Roije, the Bell suspension light from Diesel Living or the JWDA concrete lamp from Menu.

The minimalist and elegant Split Step from Frederik Roije is a practical accessory which would look right at home in a minimalist loft.  The Spire wall hooks from Finell is a subtle way to add interest on walls, especially in bathrooms.  Want to recreate the effect of a brick wall?  Why not try the Materials wallpaper from NLXL?
