Container Style

RDP House by Daniel Moreno Flores and Sebastian Calero

Container houses are not uncommon but few are as stylish as the RDP House in Pichincha, Ecuador.

Local architects Daniel Moreno Flores and Sebastian Calero placed seven 20-foot containers and a 40-foot container on strategically located concrete platforms and connected them with steel, wood and glass structures.  The exterior of the containers were left largely unchanged, the rough surface and markings providing a rich contrast to the whitewashed interiors, wooden floors and open spaces created by the connecting structures.  The result is a stimulating mix of industrial rough and contemporary slick and a world away from a portacabin.

Industrial Style

Product Inspiration

The ABC bookcase from Saporiti and the Plus concrete storage system from Lyon Beton both capture the modular spirit of the container house well.  Industrial style does not mean comfort should be sacrificed.  The Overdyed Side Chair and Chubby Chic Armchair from Diesel Living both look great in industrial style spaces.

The Skylight Tower suspension light from Frederik Roije provides a touch of slickness which complements the industrial look well.  Alternatively table lights such as the Asterisco from LZF, the Mr Ed from Functionals and the JWDA Concrete Lamp from Menu would all work well.

For accessories which are bold with an industrial feel what about the Smokestack outdoor chimney from Frederik Roije or the Silver Grey Bricks Materials wallpaper from NLXL?
