Refined Transformations of ÆTHER/MASS
Explore - Collaborate - Transform
Belgian industrial designer Davy Grosemans created ÆTHER/MASS in 2022, a platform which liberates him from the strictures of client briefs to explore new creative frontiers. His inspirations come from rethinking the meanings behind everyday objects, transforming familiar forms into intriguing new designs which are are then turned into reality by expert craftsmen.
The Lathe series of tables, for example, are inspired by wooden table legs which are commonly made using a turning lathe. The abstracted form of these legs are fused together to create occasional tables of great sculptural presence. The Aperture table is made of a slab of aluminium with 32 holes cut out of it. These cut-out round discs are then stacked to create the legs of the table in a clever play on the concepts of addition vs subtraction and function vs decoration. The Exposure Cabinet has fixed open doors which reveal and draw you into its contents instead of closing and concealing. Other designs include chairs, lights and accessories, all of which share the same minimalist design language but each with their different story to tell. The objects in the collection are all made in limited editions and are signed and numbered.
