Colour Saturation

MPPM Apartment by Studio Tenca & Associati

Those who doubt the uplifting power of colour should look no further than this jewel-box of an apartment in the Navigli area of Milan, which the designers at Studio Tenca has transformed with a palette of joyful and sometimes unexpected hues.

The open plan living and dining room radiates warmth with its pale pink and earthy siena walls, set against wooden floor boards in a chevron pattern. The living room is dominated by a sofa in forest green and a playful rug in an illusion pattern, both outstanding with bold blocks of colour. The blue rug and burnt orange chairs in the dining room set a different tone, echoed in the bright blue kitchen, which no doubt offers a cool sanctuary when the heat is on. The two bathrooms showcase very different personalities: one is vibrant with coral pink walls and jade green tiles, whilst the other one is more subdued; but even here the sober shades of grey and beige are punctuated by pink terracotta tiles. Accessories and wallpapers add dashes of bright colours to the two bedrooms, which are otherwise painted in cooler shades.

Such a rich palette of colours could easily look confused, but here they feel confident and refreshing, creating visual interest everywhere you look without feeling overwhelming. A feast for the eyes indeed.
