Glass Villa on the Lake by Mecanoo

A stunning glass villa nestles at a corner of a lake in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Lechlade, glistening in the sun like a jewel box. Created by Dutch architects Mecanoo, the house is designed to optimise the views of the lake.

The sleek, boxy structure is surrounded by trees on two sides, which provide shelter and privacy. The other two sides face the lake, the colours and patterns of the water reflected in the glass facade. The tall ceilings (at least 2.8 metres), floor-to-ceiling windows and a substantial central stairwell (topped with a glass roof) ensure light penetrates every corner of the house, whilst the open plan arrangement (most rooms are duel aspect) and the simple interior design scheme of dark wood with white walls optimise sight lines of the view outside. The substantial deck on the ground floor and the enormous roof terrace bring the outdoor another step closer, making this villa the perfect spot to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature.

Product Inspiration

Go for sleek, minimalist furniture to ensure maximum focus on the views. Try the Tailor sofa from Menu, the Hip Hop set of side tables form Formae and the Iblea table from Desalto

The slick, high tech I.Rain OLED suspension light from Blackbody would look great in the lakeside house, as would the Table Tower table light from Frederik Roije. For the deck outside try the Piknik rechargeable table light from LZF.

We love the sleek accessories of Frederik Roije and Ghidini 1961, such as the Metrobowl Amsterdam and the Tip Top medium tray. The Blockwork desk organiser from Lyon Beton would work well too.
