New York may be the spiritual home of lofts but few are as inspiring as the Crosby Street Loft in Soho. The apartment was converted by DHD Architecture and Interior Design, who cleverly combined original features (including Corinthian-style columns and a 120-foot continuous brick wall with exposed arches) with contemporary designs to create a harmonious space with more than a touch of luxe.
We particularly like the stainless steel kitchen and the walnut wall panels in the double-height living room, which add warmth and intimacy to a space which might otherwise feel cold. Other creative ideas include a raised glass lounge in the living room, quirky uplights incorporated into a wall of drawers and the richly decorated barn-style bathrooms doors. These are the design details which really set this apartment apart and shows how flexible loft spaces can be.

Industrial-style spaces are not just about concrete and steel - wood and luxurious fabrics can work surprisingly well too. The Wendela bar stool from Functionals combines the warmth of wood with industrial styling beautifully, whilst the contrasting colours and materials of the Mathilda chair from Moroso would add warmth and interest to any space.
The sleek and minimal Skylight Tower suspension lights from Frederik Roije are inspired by skyscrapers and would look wonderful in an industrial-style loft, especially arranged in a group over a kitchen counter. A funky marquee light such as the Vegaz light from Seletti is perfect for enhancing the industrial aesthetic.
Quirky accessories are great for adding interest. Use the Transmission candle holders from Diesel Living to bring some industrial style to the dining table and the Nuclear Concrete plant pots from Lyon Beton for a touch of humour.

There was a time when the use of marble was largely restricted to floors, posh kitchen counters and grave statutes. And then, at some point around the mid-noughties, marble was everywhere. Could the same be happening to terrazzo?
