Calvin Klein's Waterfront Villa, Miami: USD 16,000,000 (£10,700,000)

Zen Sanctuary

Calvin Klein is famous for his slick, minimalist look and his waterfront retreat in Miami Beach is no exception.  The retired fashion designer recently put the mansion on sale just as he bought a super contemporary house in Los Angeles to add to his enviable property portfolio which includes a penthouse in New York and two houses in the Hamptons.

What the agent says:
"Calvin Klein's private waterfront sanctuary, securely situated on North Bay Road with dock and infinity pool overlooking 113 feet of open bay views. 5 BR / 5 en suite BATHS / 2 HALF BATHS and 2 car garage. 5,800 total sq. feet.  Open floor plan with European craftsmanship throughout captures the essence of Zen.  Furnishings and antiques by world renowned designer Axel Vervoordt. Impressively landscaped outdoor living/dining areas that increase living space to 7,966 sq. ft. on a 16,709 sq. ft. lot."

What we love:
The stately mansion, built in 1929, is small by the standards of similar high profile homes in Miami beach but does retain a certain intimate charm.  The interiors are classic Calvin Klein - monochrome, simple but sophisticated, serene to the point of almost monastic.  This house certainly stands out from the neighbours!

What can be improved:
This house would look great with some sculptural yet natural furniture and light fittings.
