In the metropolis of Hong Kong, food and eating out is such an ingrained part of the culture it is almost close to religion. Restaurants are temples of gastronomy where the style, ambience and cool factor is as important as the quality of food. When acclaimed Australian chef David Laris was asked to reinvent the concept of a high end steakhouse in Hong Kong the client turned to local architects Kokaistudio, who designed a restaurant which is sleek, luxurious and fast becoming the place to be.
Despite the relative small size of the site (590 square metres on the 7th floor of a commercial building) the architects managed to incorporate the main dining room, private dining rooms, open kitchen, bar, terrace, chef's counter and a display meat locker in defined zones which flow fluidly into each other. The interior space is slick and sophisticated, with the use of opulent materials such as marble, brass and leather adding a sense of refinement. We particular like the faceted mirror panels on the ceiling and the clever use of sculptural pendants, which make the most of the high ceilings to create an intimate and sexy atmosphere.
