Vejle is a town at the mouth of the Vejle fjord in Denmark, and jutting out into the fjord from the front of the harbour is this remarkable kayak club designed by Copenhagen-based Force4Architects.
The structure is built in wood on two floors, with the lower level dedicated to the storage of kayaks and the upper deck designed for visitors with facilities such as a viewing deck and a barbecue area. The two levels are connected by ramps and stairs which form a continuous loop around the central "courtyard", the launch area for the kayaks to take to the sea. The building has a strong sculptural presence yet looks open and inviting at the same time. Enough to entice even the most sceptical of landlubbers to take up kayaking!
